Wallet addresses are precise but hostile to everyday use. Bonfida made naming an infrastructure layer, giving Solana users and applications a legible identity primitive.

What it is
Solana Name Service connects readable .sol names to wallet addresses and other records. That replaces a long public key with an identifier a person can recognize, share, and use across compatible applications.
Bonfida’s product history extends beyond naming, but SNS became the durable infrastructure layer. The project has since introduced a new SNS governance direction while explaining how it differs from the earlier FIDA token model.
The bet was on usability at the protocol edge. Naming looks cosmetic until it becomes the shared route through which wallets, profiles, payments, and applications identify the same user.

What the company is building now.
Bonfida has effectively become SNS. The ecosystem introduced the SNS token, is preparing a .sol naming upgrade in which holders receive both .sns and .sol domains, and is scheduling a registration pause and eligibility snapshot in August 2026.

Replace long Solana addresses with portable, human-readable .sol identity and make that identity usable across wallets, applications, websites and messaging.

The project raised capital as Bonfida before narrowing its focus and rebranding around Solana Name Service (SNS).

The long game.
Make a Solana name the default cross-application identity layer for users and developers, with community governance aligned directly to naming rather than Bonfida’s retired DEX-era product suite.
Fit with the Box Ventures thesis.
Fits Applications and developer infrastructure: identity abstraction can make open networks usable without removing user ownership. The key question is whether names become an integration standard and repeated identity surface, not only speculative assets.
