Radix

An asset-oriented stack for decentralized finance.

active
Investment signal

The signal.

Radix treated assets and multi-step transactions as first-class protocol concepts. The bet was that safer financial software required a stack designed around ownership from the language upward.

A public Layer 1 with an asset-oriented programming model, native transaction manifests, and infrastructure designed for building financial applications.

What it is

Radix is a Layer 1 built for asset-centric applications. Its Scrypto language and Radix Engine model tokens and permissions as native resources rather than conventions every developer must rebuild in a smart contract.

Transactions can describe several intended actions in one manifest before the user signs. That is designed to make complex DeFi interactions easier to preview and reason about.

The same specialization that differentiates Radix raises its adoption bar. Developers must choose a distinct stack, and the network must prove that stronger asset semantics create enough practical advantage to justify that choice.

What the company is building now.

The Radix Foundation entered maintenance mode in May 2026. Core infrastructure is prepaid through year-end, a community-elected council is forming the successor DAO entity, and Foundation assets are being prepared for transfer. The network remains live, but operating responsibility is changing materially.

01 / Goal

The job it wants to do.

Create an asset-oriented DeFi stack with native resources, transaction manifests and eventually sharded consensus that can preserve atomic composability at very large scale.

02 / Capital

Public funding record.

Radix combined public token financing with a later strategic token investment. The Foundation’s current reserves and community grants are operational resources, not new rounds.

04 / Crypto role

Where it sits in the stack.

Radix is a purpose-built Layer 1 and programming environment for financial applications. Scrypto and Radix Engine aim to remove classes of asset-accounting bugs common in general-purpose smart contracts.

The pinned update is the community handoff. Recent posts continue technical education on Radix Engine and an open financial network, alongside a remembrance of founder Dan Hughes.

06 / Horizon

The long game.

Complete the transition to community ownership while preserving the differentiated full-stack DeFi architecture and eventually delivering sharded Cerberus scalability.

07 / Our view

Fit with the Box Ventures thesis.

The architecture fits Foundations, but the operating transition is now the dominant investment fact. Technical differentiation matters only if a credible contributor, governance and funding model survives the Foundation’s retreat.

What must go right
  • Legal completion and accountability of the new DAO entity
  • Infrastructure continuity after December 2026
  • Active developers, releases and liquidity during the handoff
